Chapter 15

P

resident Thurman is handling the consequences of the prison break in Augusta and the FPF seizing citizens' belongings as payment, back at the White House. The nation is revolting against the FPF and the Thurman administration and he is slowly losing control. He is losing support from within his administration and from global leaders who once aligned with him. President Thurman no longer has many people whom he can trust. His assistant, Sheila Jackson, walked into the Oval Office and took a seat at his desk directly across from him.

“Is everything okay, Mr. President? It looks like something is bothering you.” She said while crossing her legs and making herself comfortable in the chair.

President Thurman had a solemn look on his face and replied, “Not really, Sheila. I’m slowly losing control of the country. People that I once trusted are now distancing themselves from me. I don’t know what to do anymore.”

“Mr. President, despite the circumstances, you are doing the best that you can. I truly don’t think anyone could have done any better. Please remember, that this collapse is not your fault. You inherited the problems of this country.”

“Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. It means a lot. How are you doing these days?” President Thurman asked while sitting straight up in his chair.

“I’m doing ok, despite it all.” She said while smiling and stroking her hair. “So, Mr. President, tell me about your early life and how you got into politics. We’ve been so busy that we haven’t gotten the chance to get to know each other.”

President Thurman rested his chin on his hands. “Sure. Well, where do I begin?”

“Tell me about your college experience, your marriage, and how you got into politics.”

“OK, so I went to college in Florida and majored in Political Science. I graduated with honors, Cum laude, to be specific. Then I immediately went to law school in Chicago. Those were some fun times.”

“Really! How did you enjoy living in Chicago?”

“Chicago was a blast. I lived in the Magnificent Mile area. The summers were great. My friends and I would hang out on Lake Michigan, boating and drinking booze. The food was beyond awesome. But the winters were brutal! We barely came outside.”

“I can imagine. I’ve heard it can get below freezing in Chicago. I wish I could have visited, but with the current situation, that doesn’t seem likely.” She paused and gave a sly smirk, and raised one eyebrow. “Soooo, tell me about your marriages.”

“Ah, so you want to know about the juicy stuff? I met my first wife in law school in Chicago. We started dating in our second year, and we got married about 9 months after graduation. We lived & practiced law in Chicago for about 3 years before we separated and divorced.”

“What was the reason for the divorce?”

“To make a long story short, we were extremely busy in our careers and we barely had time to see each other and spend quality time together. We would see each other a few times a week.
